Medication Aide

Dedicated Nursing Associates, a medical staffing firm, has current openings for Medication Aides. Occupational Summary:
Responsible for the continuous improvement of total quality care as it relates to providing Medication Aide services to hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities requiring the services of a Medication Aide. Additionally, the Medication Aide demonstrates competency while dispensing and administering medications and/or applying/administering treatments under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Reports To: Charge Nurse or Nursing Supervisor

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of a state-approved training class for nurse’s aides.
  2. Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide course, passed the state-approved competency, and has received state certification to practice in an expanded role.
  3. Current CPR
  4. Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology
  5. Minimum of six months experience in a setting serving the same age/type of patient population served by this facility.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for providing patient services as directed by the nursing plan of care and/or nursing supervisor.
  2. Responsible for reporting on the condition of the patient/client to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
  3. Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, and knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures for local, state, and federal guidelines; and the policies of the facility requesting the services.
  4. Responsible for dispensing, administration, monitoring, and documentation of medications and treatments as prescribed by authorized healthcare providers and following scope of practice and facility policy.
  5. Provides patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
  6. Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; and providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  7. Responsible for having a broad understanding of the services provided by Dedicated Nursing Associates, Inc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Stooping, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling, and the ability to lift 50 pounds
  2. Constant/repetitive standing
  3. Ability to accurately discern color as necessary to perform job functions.
